Culterra has supplied the Nursery Industry with their quality products for over four decades. Customers recognise the famous hand brand bags which contain soil ameliorants, potting media, lawn dressing and top dressing. The products are delivered as pallet loads of 100 bags and with sales of 20-30000 bags per week throughout the country, distribution costs are a serious issue. Johan Griffioen owns the business with his brother and had invested in 16 trucks and 54 personnel to distribute the products. Each truck was completing only one delivery per day and this became a major problem in the high season from September to December every year when deliveries increase fourfold. Then Johan read about the benefits of delivering goods by Moffett, the truck mounted forklift. “I met with Marius Schutte from Shamrock Handling” says an enthusiastic Johan “and when I realised the potential of delivery by Moffett, I invested in a unit to test the operation.” “It didn’t take long to convince me that my distribution costs would reduce but I was in for a pleasant shock !” Johan changed the configuration of his fleet to 2x 14 tonners, 4 tri-axles and a super link and having invested in 7 Moffetts the savings were extraordinary. The transport fleet reduced from 16 trucks to 7 and the personnel numbers decreased from 54 to 16. “Arriving with your own offloading mechanical equipment just eliminated all of the waiting time due to manual labour and generated several loads per day instead of one” said Johan. “The Moffett enabled me to offload the pallet loads in a matter of minutes and place them where the customer requested”. |
